POLICE ARREST AX-WIELDING ST. LOUIS RESIDENT WHO DESTROYED TREES ON 94TH STREET AND THREATENED PEOPLE IN RIVERSIDE PARK THURSDAY AFTERNOON – CALL OR EMAIL HELEN!

Incidents at the St. Louis-Rustin facility on 94th and the Freedom House shelter have shocked the community.  After a good start, Council Member Helen Rosenthal has fallen down on her promises of community input. We ask your help to stay on top of the City to ensure that everyone in these buildings is protected and our streets are safe!

Our neighbors on West 94th Street witnessed an ax-wielding man go beserk yesterday (Thursday) who lives in the City-subsidized Lantern facility known as the St. Louis AKA Bayard Rustin House, 319 West 94 Street.  Witnesses told N90s that the man chopped down at least three trees with an ax on the 300 block of West 94th, then ran into Riverside Park where he apparently threatened bystanders with the ax in the park.  He was apprehended by Police from the 24th Precinct.

We have also been told that there was, in an unrelated incident, a rape inside the City’s homeless Freedom House shelter on West 95th Street.

Both facilities have skirted public oversight by refusing to hold monthly meetings with Community Advisory Boards, and not allowing Neighborhood In The Nineties to monitor their social services programs and compliance with city contracts.

This has gone on long enough. We urge neighbors to call or email Council Member Helen Rosenthal. Demand that the community have appropriate input so that, to the extent possible, incidents like this can be prevented.

Ms. Rosenthal has promised community input, but has not lived up lately to her campaign promises. Please contact her today: 212.788.6975 or Helen@HelenRosenthal.com
